Over the past two weeks, the YWAM Ships medical team has had the privilege of partnering with Modilon General Hospital in Madang, Papua New Guinea. Our medical staff from the YWAM Liberty were invited to conduct a series of workshops with the hospital’s nursing and clinical staff.
These sessions were designed not only to strengthen clinical knowledge but also to deepen collaboration and build lasting relationships between YWAM Ships and the hospital community.
The workshops covered a wide range of essential medical practices, including:
- Refinement of critical care nursing practices
- Emergency airway management
- Maternity care
- Public health and research methods specific to Papua New Guinea
Our teaching team included three nurses, a midwife, and a Master of Public Health student from the YWAM Liberty medical crew. Together, they combined practical expertise with spiritual encouragement, combining professional development with spiritual encouragement.
What made these workshops unique was the integration of faith and prayer into each session. Every teaching time included opportunities to pray with and encourage the hospital staff, offering not just professional development but also spiritual support. Our goal has been to strengthen both the clinical skills and the spiritual foundation of those serving on the frontlines of healthcare in Papua New Guinea.
Resources and Future Partnership
In addition to hands-on teaching, the YWAM team shared educational materials from the United States, free public health databases, and guidance on how to access tools such as the World Health Organization’s vast online resources. Modilon General Hospital has also expressed interest in further developing its quality improvement and research practices, an area where YWAM Ships hopes to continue offering support.
Looking forward, both YWAM Ships and Modilon General Hospital are exploring the possibility of ongoing workshops and consultations in other clinical areas. The enthusiasm and gratitude expressed by the hospital staff have been overwhelming, and the door is wide open for future collaboration.
This partnership has been a blessing for both sides. For YWAM Ships, it is another opportunity to serve and equip local healthcare providers while also sharing the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For Modilon General Hospital, it represents practical tools, stronger skills, and a renewed vision for caring for the people of Madang and beyond.
Together, we are working toward healthier communities and transformed lives both physically and spiritually.
