Acceptance. Panic. This Is Suppose To Be Fun?!?!

Congratulations! You’ve been accepted for DTS.

Ok so, Now What???

We know the challenges of packing, preparing and everything else involved can be overwhelming. So take a deep breath. Relax. Here are few tips to help you prepare:

Oh and remember, this is suppose to be fun.

Step 1: Relax. It can seem like a daunting task to pause your current life, jump on a plane and engage in a new community different than your own. Take heart. There are many of us here that have done the same thing. We took a step of faith, trusted God and have grown because of it.

Step 2: Take it one day at a time. Since being accepted, you’ll feel like you have a ton of things to do. Flights to book, things to pack, people to talk to and the like. If you tackle one thing each day, you’ll get everything done.

As your departure date gets closer, there’ll be excitement in the air for what’s ahead, maybe some anxiousness of leaving home and the safety of what you’ve known. Know this: you are not alone. We are here and more importantly, God’s got your back.

Step 3: Read your Preparing to Come Pack. This is so helpful. There’s so much valuable information in there. There are packing lists, health insurance/vaccination questions, payment and visa info for all students and many more tidbits that will help you in preparing to come.

Step 4: You can contact us. We would love to hear any questions you have. If this is your first time traveling by yourself and/or living away from home, we understand where you’re at. We want you to feel comfortable before you even get here.

Step 5: Include your church. If you have a home church, make sure to let them know what’s going on. They are a great source for prayer and support. If you don’t have a home church, that’s fine. Contact us. We are here for you and will walk you through each step.

Step 6: Family and friends. Don’t forget to share the news with them. These people are the bread and butter of your life. Share this with them and involve them in as much of this adventure as you can.

Step 7: Packing. Besides reading the Preparing to Come Pack, make sure to check your airline for baggage limitations before you pack. We live in community, so pack light. Storage space in rooms can be somewhat limited.

Step 8: Some more tidbits for ya. Being based in Hawaii means a few things: lots of sun, lots of swimming and lots of fun. Don’t forget your sunscreen, your swimsuit and your sense of adventure.

Throughout your prep time, remember we are here to help. Don’t be afraid to contact us. You are about to embark on a life changing journey.

It’s going to be an adventure and this is just the beginning.
