YWAM Ships Kona has been awarded two medical grants by the Blessings International — an Oklahoma-based organization dedicated to helping humanitarian agencies acquire supplies, medicine and equipment to do relief work. The grants covered almost $40,000 worth of medical equipment and supplies.

The first of the shipments arrived in Port YWAM Kona, Hawaii, in December. The supplies will be used by health-care volunteers aboard the m/v PACIFIC LINK. The ship is currently on deployment in Madang, Papua New Guinea.

Kevin Smith, who helps oversee corporate affairs for YWAM Ships Kona, said grants help the ministry’s vessels stay primed to offer quality health services to underprivileged people in isolated locations.

.“We are unable to accomplish our objectives without those who provide medical supplies and equipment. We are 100 percent donor-based and rely on the kindness of many contributors to make everything work,” Smith said.

Strategic Partnership
YWAM Ships was made aware of the Blessings International grant by a physician who is active within the medical nonprofit community. Smith said those kinds of relationships allow YWAM Ships to increase the productivity of its outreaches.

“Friends of the ministry play such a vital role when they open up their networks to YWAM Ships,” Smith said.
